Feeling crafty

I took a road trip to the nearest large fabric store yesterday. The only places to buy fabric in my town are at Wal-Mart and at a small specialty quilt shop. I was just looking for some sturdy fabric to make some new throw pillows and a cover for an old coffee table that we'd like to convert to a play table for our little artist. I looked at Wal-Mart first, but when they didn't have what I was looking for we drove 45 minutes to Joann Fabrics. They didn't have what I was looking for as far as pillow fabric, but I did find this:

Don't you love it? It's flannel. They had all their flannel for $2 a yard. I ended up buying the whole bolt. It's going to be the back of Owen's quilt once he ends up on a twin-sized bed. That gives me a couple of years to finish it...and I'm going to need it! I'd been keeping my eye out for some sort of inspiration for his future quilt, and I think I've found it! Only drawback...no purple. His walls are currently light purple and it looks like they aren't going to stay that way. Oh well, we've lived here 4 years and haven't painted a wall yet. I've only made a couple of quilts and I don't intend to do anything fancy with this one, but I might go all crazy and do something with triangles. I've never done triangles before! Watch out!

He can read!

Well, he has a good memory, anyway. He can page through "No, David!" and get the text right. "No, David!" "Settle down!" "Be quiet!" I suppose he's used to hearing no a lot lately. He's certainly testing us. Tell him not to touch and watch him see how close he can get his finger to whatever object it is. I hear, "No, Mommy! Sit down, Mommy!" Charming, hey? We're trying to nip it in the bud.

For the most part, though, he's a good boy. He says thank you. If you tell him to ask nice, he stops whining and says please. He often says please without prompting. He goes to bed and stays asleep. He pets the kitty nicely, and knows she's soft. He builds with blocks. He knows his shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. He even knows trapezoid. Everything with more than 5 sides is a pentagon, but we're working on it. He can count, sorta...he consistently says "1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, A, C!" and then congratulates himself for counting to C. Yay! At least he knows how many feet he has. Most of the time he stops at 2. When we say prayers at dinner he doesn't say "Amen," it's "Yay!" He loves fruit bars and gummies ("treats!"). He loves to color, and is pretty good at it. He always tells me when the phone is ringing, just in case I didn't hear it.

I'm enjoying the heck out of this age. As much as I am hoping for another baby, I'm glad I have him all to myself right now. I'm loving watching him learn something new every day, and I'm afraid I'd be missing something if I had to divide my time. I'm really praying that we're pregnant before the year is out, though. As laughable as it is for someone with my issues to discuss child-spacing, I think 3 years is a great distance between kids. I'll even take 3-1/2. Heck, I'd take 10, I'm not choosy, but 3 sounds good to me. I go see my new OB next week about my future pregnancy possibilities. I'm terrified/excited.

I'll make a million

I'm going to invent a site where you can use a microphone to hum that snippet of a song that's stuck in your head but you can't remember the title, artist, or any lyrics, and it'll spit out the answer. Wait, maybe you can help me. It goes da-dah boom boom da-dah boom boom da-da-da-da-da...
