Ok, that was pretty fun. Mostly silly, but I really liked how sad times and the soundtrack question turned out. As far as life getting too hard, I think "valGREEN!" sounds like something good to say when you drop a watermelon on your toe. I doubt my dear husband appreciates the answer to the sex life question. I don't know why Sixpence kept coming up...I do have over 1,700 songs in there!

Cor, I think you should do this. Anyone else who happens over here and has an iPod, or at least a bunch of mp3's...do it and leave me a note. :)

Enough of 2, already

Mama says, "Don't kick mama!"
Owen says, "I like kick mama!"

So, 2 isn't all puppies and sunshine. We have frustrated hitting, though that seems to have died down recently, now that I think about it. We have chronic inability to make up one's mind. ("Do you want milk or juice?" "Juice. Milk. Juice." "Okay, here's your juice." "Noooo! MIIILLLK!") We have tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Now granted, I understand it has to be frustrating to be told what to do all of the time, to be carried around to bed and wherever whether you want to go or not. I empathize, but that still doesn't make it okay. I feel like that's our job as parents, to make sure he knows it's okay to feel frustrated, but it's not okay to collapse in a sobbing, screaming heap on the floor when things don't go our way. It's especially not okay to smack the human being who is offending you. I don't like threatening him but so far it seems to be working. I'm trying to stick to no means no to cut down on the wheedling.

It's just so upsetting to watch my sweet little baby turn into a growling (yes, growling!), frustrated 2 year-old. I have no idea what is normal toddler behavior and what is out of control. I can't help but feel like it's my/our fault that he behaves this way. Whenever I tell other BTDT moms about whatever little crime spree he went on, however, they just nod and say comforting things, so maybe this is just par for the course. I sure hope so.

Obviously, he's not real choosy

Conversation in the car...

"Momma, it's a bird!"
"What's the bird doing?"
"It's in the sky!"
"The bird is in the sky?"
"I like the bird in the sky!"
"Me too."
"I like me too."

Conversation over pizza

"Momma, is this a pickle?"
"No, baby, that's an olive."
"Olive? Mmm, I like olives."

Mother's Day contest!

5 Minutes for Mom is running a bunch of contests this week...head on over!

I love 2 the sequel

So yeah, for the most part 2 is great. We went to the zoo this past weekend and he got really excited about the giraffe and the peacock but the best part in his mind were the two awesome play sets they had, including slides ("swide!"). Swings are okay, but the slide is the best. If it has stairs he can go up and down, all the better. He enjoyed playing with his cousins Tia, Ethan, and Gavin, and my friend's daughter Athena ("Feena!"). He was pretty good most of the weekend, except for church which was a disaster. That's fodder for the "I HATE 2" post that's coming soon, though. He was cuddly with my parents, especially loving the Donald Duck voice that my step-dad does.

He loves shapes. He recognizes the basic ones, and a few more advanced ones including a trapezoid. He's recently gotten into Little People with the purchase of a rummage-sale bus, and that is his current favorite toy. He lines up the little guys like they're waiting to get in the bus, and they have to go in the door, not through the top. He can sing his alphabet song and loves to sing in general. Yesterday The Cranberries "Linger" was on the radio, when I realized he was in the back seat singing, "Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to..." He really likes rap, from what he's heard. Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" is a favorite. We love Noggin around here; Blue's Clue's and Oobi being at the top of the list. Elmo, of course, is also well-loved.

He's very patient. It amazes me to watch him play with a puzzle. He doesn't get upset if the pieces don't fit, he just tries again. He might eventually get bored and wander off, but his attention span is very long. He likes to do artsy things and enjoys Play Doh and coloring.

You can almost have a conversation with him now. If I ask him what he's doing, he'll respond with a complete sentence. "Im-a eat Cheerios." "I put puzzle together."

I just wanted to document him at age 2. I know this isn't interesting to anyone but his parents...this post was just for me.
