Dr. Bob

I took Owen to his first dentist's appointment today. He had gone to the dentist a couple of times with Cor and I, just to watch, but today was his first time in the chair. He's 3, so I had no idea what to expect. I told him he'd have to open his mouth wide, and then they'd give him a new toothbrush. He seemed excited about that. Eva, the hygienist, came out and introduced herself and he was quiet but seemed agreeable to go back and see what was up. On the way back to the room she said, "We're not going to push it, we'll get done what we can, but he's pretty little." I sat in the chair and he sat on my lap. He opened when she said open and closed when she asked him to. She listed off the flavors of toothpaste, "Cherry, grape, strawberry, cotton candy, mint..." He picked mint. She looked at me in surprise, but he does like mints! She told him what she was going to do before she did it each time, explaining each dental gadget before sticking it in his mouth. I was so proud that he didn't freak out, he let her stick the rotating brush, vacuum, water sprayer, and that sharp little pokey thing in his mouth without even a peep. She was thoroughly impressed. I was too! He has 20 teeth, in case anyone is wondering. Then the dentist got to make his grand entrance, poked around, and pronounced him cavity-free. Woot! They both said he has great teeth, the dentist pronounced them "textbook." He got his picture taken for the "No Cavity" board, for which he made this cheesy smile he has invented for pictures, and got to pick a toy from the treasure box. I couldn't have been more proud of my big boy.
